We know you want more than a place for your child to “go” at the end of the school day. You want a place where your child is seen, known, and cared for—not just one face in a crowded room, and that’s why we created something different.
Makerie Afterschool is designed to feel like coming home—but not just any home. Think of it as that magical treehouse in the backyard: the one where friendships are built, adventures unfold, and favorite stories spring to life. A safe, welcoming space where children can breathe after a long school day, while still finding their imaginations sparked and their hearts filled.
Here, kids aren’t “managed.” They’re nurtured. They’re guided by caring, professional staff who know them by name, notice the little things, and celebrate who they are. Instead of screens or endless noise, afternoons are spent exploring stories, creating projects, connecting with friends, and finding joy in both quiet and big adventures.
This isn’t just afterschool care. It’s an extension of home and family—a place where curiosity is celebrated, childhood is honored, and every child belongs.

Low Ratios & Professional Staff
Every child is known, cared for, and encouraged to thrive. Our staff aren’t babysitters—they’re mentors, guides, and cheerleaders for each child, staffed at 1/8 ratio so we have the space and time to connect with each child and meet them where they need in our programming each day.

No Screens, Just Stories & Making
We believe kids deserve afternoons of imagination, not more screen time. That’s why Makerie Afterschool is screen-free, with activities rooted in play, creativity, and connection. Yep! Even on rainy days or end of the program time, we stay engaged and present in creative activities.

Story-Based Curriculum
Much like our summer program, in our Afterschool WE LOVE STORIES! Each month we dive into a new book together. We will read it together and explore its world through collaborative projects using art and STEM to bring the stories to life in magical, hands-on ways.

Our staff support children with focus and encouragement so they can finish homework with confidence, leaving families free to enjoy evenings together without stress.

A Place to just BE YOU!
Afternoons at Makerie are all about giving children exactly what they need after a long day at school. For some, that means running, playing, and being joyfully loud. For others, its diving into a creative project, solving a challenge, or joining friends for a board game that sparks laughter and connection. And sometimes, it's simply curling up in a cozy spot with a pair of headphones, taking a quiet moment to recharge.
Because every child is different, and every afternoon should honor that, at Makerie, we create a space for it all - movement, creativity, and calm - so kids leave feeling balanced, happy, and truly themselves.
What a Day at Makerie Looks Like:

2:00–2:30 PM (1:00 on Wednesdays) – Arrival & Welcome: Kiddos transition from school with a snack and some free time choosing between the playground, the game room, or our magical library.

2:30–3:30 PM – Homework help or Creative Stations Time.

3:30–4:30 PM – Story-based projects & creative workshops (art, building, storytelling, or science inspired by our monthly book).

4:30–5:15 PM – Active play and outdoor adventures (movement games, playground time, or group challenges).

5:15–6:00 PM – Free choice stations, board games, drawing, or reading in the “treehouse corner” until pickup.

ENROLLMENT & COST
LOCATION: 3536 NW 8th Ave (the 2 story Building by the playground)
- We follow the ACPS calendar and are open 2p-6p (1p-6p) on Wednesdays.
- Enrollment is on a month-month basis and once you enroll, you are automatically enrolled in the following months at the same rate/days until the end of the school year or you cancel your spot.
Our rates are monthly charges /charged on the 15th of the month prior / your first month will be a prorated based on when you enroll before the next month cycle starts.
FULL TIME TUITION 4-5 Days per week - $425 monthly
PART TIME TUITION 2-3 Days per week - $265 monthly
FULL TIME Van Transportation FEE - $125 monthly
PART TIME Van Transportation FEE - $85 monthly
